SC woman finds 250-pound alligator on front porch

A South Carolina woman was greeted by an uninvited guest at her door late Sunday evening when an 250-pound alligator showed up on her porch.

Shatrina Green of Conway said she heard a thump at her door that she thought was her Labrador Retriever but was unpleasantly surprised to see an 8-foot, 9-inch alligator longer than her door spread out on her front porch, leaning against her front door.

“My husband goes to work when it’s still dark outside, so it’s good we found it when we did,” Green said. “Who knows what we have happened, he could have stepped on it!”

Green called 911 and DNR as soon as she discovered the alligator, but it took over an hour for DNR to send a wildlife expert to remove the gator, who she named Alex Bobby.

“He just chilled here the whole time sleeping like it was his place,” she said.

The wildlife expert told Green the alligator came from the pond behind her house and was chased out by a larger alligator during mating season.

“I named him Alex Bobby after I found out why he was there, I felt bad for him, being chased out by a bigger gator,” she said. “My bedroom faces the pond and I can hear the larger gator at night, it sounds like a garbage truck,” Green said.

This is the second time in two weeks an alligator has visited the front porch of a South Carolina home. Last week, an alligator was captured on film crawling up the front door of a Moncks Corner, South Carolina home on Monday and reaching for a doorbell.

Green said she was told the alligator would be taken to another location and not killed.

“I was just told he was in a safe place and I'd never see him him again so not to worry,” Green said.
