Upstate PTA president charged with embezzling $36,000
The PTA president of Slater-Marietta Elementary School in Marietta was arrested Wednesday on breach of trust charges, authorities said.
Melissa Dawn Crain was charged with two counts of breach of trust $10,000 or more and breach of trust greater than $2,000 but less than $10,000, according to jail records and the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Drew Pinciaro said roughly $36,000 was taken from Slater-Marietta's PTA fund over a three-year period. The school is in northern Greenville County. School officials notified the Sheriff's Office of the missing funds last month, Pinciaro said.
Crain was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center, where she was released on a $15,000 personal recognizance bond, jail records show.
