Woman shot while waiting in car in Tanger Outlets parking lot
Police are investigating a shooting that injured a 58-year-old Myrtle Beach woman as she waited for her daughter to get off of work in a Tanger Outlet parking lot early Thursday morning.
Horry County police were dispatched to the Tanger Outlets at 10823 Kings Road at 12:10 a.m. and located the victim sitting in her vehicle with all of its doors shut. An officer opened the driver’s door and observed the victim had an “obvious gunshot wound,” according to an incident report. The officer secured the scene and advised dispatch to send in EMS.
The victim told police that her daughter was among a group of store employees who were walking out to the parking lot to leave.
The officer advised the group to stay inside, allowing the daughter to come out to the victim, according to the report. The officer grabbed his medical bag and used a dressing to hold pressure on the victim’s wound until EMS arrived.
The victim told police she was sitting in her car near a store’s exit waiting for her daughter to get out of work when two subjects approached her and said “this is a stick-up,” according to the report.
One of the suspects then shot the victim, according to Lt. Raul Denis of the Horry County Police Department.
The victim was transported by EMS to Grand Strand Medical Center. The driver’s purse was found on the floor behind the driver’s seat.
Thursday’s shooting marks the second time this year a woman was shot while sitting alone in a car in a Myrtle Beach shopping center parking lot.
Frances “Mae” Davis was a day away from celebrating her 79th birthday on Jan. 8 when police say she was found slumped over in the front passenger seat of her car in the Myrtle Beach Mall parking lot. Davis had been shot and her purse was missing. The shooting happened around noon.
Police continue to investigate the shooting, but so far no tips have led to any arrests.
A reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter has been increased to $20,000.
Police are asking anyone with information in that case to call 843-915-8477. Tips can be anonymous.
