Father of SC ‘brain-eating amoeba’ victim released from jail
The father of a Lowcountry girl who died last week after contracting a “brain-eating amoeba” was released from jail, according to media reports.
Jeff Collins, the father of 11-year-old Hannah Collins, left the Beaufort County Detention Center Monday after his family court judge decided to release him, according a report from WCSC.
Collins was reportedly in jail for unpaid child support.
WCSC reported he saw his daughter the day before she died wanted to help plan his daughter’s funeral.
Hannah Collins died Friday after being infected with an amoeba called Nagleria fowleri while swimming in the Edisto River in Charleston County July 24.
