Hannah Katherine Collins loved to sing.

She enjoyed fashion, the beach, the pool and her cat, Glover. She would have been about to start sixth grade at Riverview Charter School.

Those details were revealed this week in the obituary for Hannah, the 11-year-old Beaufort girl who died Friday at Medical University of South Carolina after battling a brain infection.

“She was a responsible, smart young lady with a very promising future,” the obituary said.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Lady’s Island Drive at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The funeral is open to the public, a family friend said.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home.

Hannah died after contracting a brain infection from amoeba while swimming in the Edisto River in July. State health officials said the amoeba infection is believed to have been contracted July 24, about two weeks after Hannah’s 11th birthday.
