Woman arrested after leaving dog in hot car at Dollar Tree, Rock Hill police say
A woman who left her small dog in a car for a half hour in 91 degree temperatures earlier this month while she shopped at Dollar Tree in Rock Hill was arrested Tuesday on charges of ill treatment of animals, police said.
Tammy Hagy, 58, allegedly left the dog in the car while at the store on Dave Lyle Boulevard Aug. 12, a police report shows. A person outside the store called police to say he saw the dog in the car for 25 minutes after 5 p.m. with the windows rolled up and no water for the dog. Officers arrived and found the dog “panting profusely,” the report states.
Hagy came out of the store five minutes after police arrived and told officers she did not believe her business in the store would take as long as it did. Police documents show she was arrested Tuesday afternoon, although it is unclear why the arrest came so many days after the incident. She was released on a personal recognizance bond.
