Significant stretch of major Richland County road to be closed for repairs

UPDATE: The boil water advisory was repealed just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, but Trenholm Road remained closed.

Original Story

Approximately a 3-mile stretch of a major Richland County road is going to be closed for repairs, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

A portion of Percival Road will be closed for repairs and traffic will be detoured beginning next Monday, Jan. 29.

SCDOT crews will repair a sinkhole in the road and a damaged cross line pipe on Percival Road, requiring a closure between Clemson Road and Spears Creek Church Road.

This could impact the commute of employees at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of SC, in addition to people heading to Fort Jackson.

The detour will require most drivers to use I-20, according to SCDOT.

The work is expected to be finished on Feb. 2, the SCDOT said. The detour will be removed on that date, barring delays caused by bad weather or other circumstances.

SCDOT advises motorists to use alternate routes if possible and to use caution when traveling in work zones.
