Multi-vehicle collision blocks heavily-traveled Midlands highway before commute
A multiple-vehicle collision created a traffic mess on a major Midlands highway as the evening commute began Thursday.
The collision occurred on SC 277 after 3 p.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, adding all northbound lanes were initially blocked.
This is near the 1-mile marker, which is south of Fontaine Road, SC 16 and Sunset Drive.
Shortly after, the Columbia Police Department reported on Twitter that one lane of traffic was open, but all drivers should expect travel delays heading out of downtown Columbia.
In addition to the police, the Columbia Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene, as crews attempted to clean up following the collision.
There is no word on how many vehicles were involved or if any injuries have been reported.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.
