A power outage affected a busy retail area the day after Christmas, according to a tweet from the Columbia Police Department.

Businesses and traffic lights have been blacked out in the Harbison area, police tweeted.

Police reported that “several businesses ... are closing,” in an area that includes popular shopping outlets Columbiana Centre and Columbiana Station.

There is no word on what caused the loss of electricity in the area, but police tweeted that the power company is working to restore service to customers.

Police said officers are directing traffic at the blacked out lights in the 300 block of Harbison Boulevard, in the Twitter post. That is where Columbiana Centre and Chick-fil-A are located.

As of 5 p.m. SCE&G reported on its website that there were close to 1,000 customers without power in Richland County

Just after 7 p.m., police tweeted power had been restored.
