Downtown Columbia street blocked after powerlines, traffic lights fall

Part of a downtown street was blocked after power lines and traffic lights fell to the roadway, according to a Tweet from the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

Sumter Street from Gervais Street to Pendleton Street was blocked Monday afternoon, according to a noon Tweet from the department.

Columbia Police and University of South Carolina police were called to the scene.

The Department of Public Safety urges drivers to go around the area.
