A South Carolina woman was killed in a motorcycle crash while riding through a national park Thursday, an official said.

Greenville resident Janice Cadotte was the passenger on a motorcycle that was traveling along the Foothills Parkway in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, WBIR reported.

A park spokesman said the crash occurred close to 11 a.m. when Greenville resident Rodney Bowers lost control of the 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle, according to WATE.

Cadotte, 56, “died from her injuries,” WLOS said.

Park rangers said Bowers, 70, was taken to to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, according to WBIR. That is approximately 40 miles from where the crash occurred near Chilhowee Lake, Smokies Guide posted on Facebook.

Information on Bowers’ condition was unavailable.

The fatal wreck was a single-vehicle crash, WATE reported.
