Crash causes injuries, blocks interstate in Richland County
A Monday afternoon crash on an interstate running through Richland County blocked traffic and caused injuries.
The collision occurred just before noon on Interstate 20, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
Two eastbound lanes were blocked near Exit 82, according to the tweet. That’s the exit for Spears Creek Church Road.
Drivers heading from Columbia to Northeast Richland County around lunchtime were delayed as the wreck and emergency vehicles blocked most of the highway.
Injuries were reported in the crash, according to the South Carolina department of Public Safety.
Information on the number of people hurt, or their conditions, was not available.
There was no word on how the collision occurred, or the number of vehicles involved.
All three lanes of I-20 were backed up for miles back to the Clemson Road exit, SCDOT traffic cameras showed.
At about 12:25 p.m., all of the eastbound lanes were reopened, but the scene was not clear, as vehicles including patrol cars, were pulled to the right shoulder, SCDOT reported
