Disabled vehicle blocks busy stretch of interstate running through Richland County

A disabled vehicle is creating a traffic jam for drivers on a busy stretch of an interstate running through Richland County on Sunday.

The breakdown happened at about 1 p.m. on Interstate 77 near Exit 19, the junction with Farrow Road, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.

That area is densely populated with retail businesses, restaurants, and Providence Hospital.

Two northbound lanes of the highway were blocked by the disabled vehicle, according to the tweet. Reports said the vehicle was on fire.

No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Information on when the lanes would be reopened was not available.
