Three killed in overnight crash on South Carolina road, Highway Patrol says

Three people died Sunday night in a car crash, South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Radio Road in Hemingway, according to Master Trooper Brian Lee. That is about 100 miles east of Columbia.

An Infiniti sedan was heading south when it crossed over the lane and ran off the left side of Radio Road, Lee said.

As the car left the road it smashed into a tree, killing all three people inside, Highway Patrol reported.

None of the three occupants was wearing a seat belt, Lee said.

The crash victims will be publicly identified by the Williamsburg County Coroner’s Office after the next of kin has been notified.

Information on what caused the car to run off the road was not available, but the wreck remains under investigation by Highway Patrol.

Prior to the collision, 184 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2020, according to the Department of Public Safety. Of those deaths, 131 of the victims had access to seat belts, and 66 were not wearing safety restraints, DPS said.
