Collision blocks traffic heading to Columbia on rainy morning commute

Emergency vehicles lined a stretch of an interstate running through Lexington County following a Monday morning collision that created delays for drivers commuting toward Columbia.

All westbound lanes of Interstate 26 were closed following the crash that happened at about 8:15 a.m., the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.

The wreck was near Exit 116 on I-26, which is the junction with Interstate 77 toward Charlotte.

Information on injuries was not available from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Traffic cameras showed one car was flipped on its roof in the passing lane.

There was no word on what caused the collision, or the number of vehicles involved. But roads across the Midlands were damp following a rainy night.

Expect delays and use caution in the area!” Master Trooper David Jones tweeted.

At about 8:50 a.m., SCDOT tweeted no lanes were closed, as traffic cameras showed the vehicles involved and emergency responders had moved to the right shoulder of I-26.
