Wreck blocks highway headed to Columbia during morning commute
Drivers heading toward Columbia during the Wednesday morning commute were delayed following a collision.
The crash happened just before 9 a.m. on a section of Interstate 20 running through Lexington County, near Exit 61, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. That’s the last exit before the Richland County line and the area known as Malfunction Junction. The exit is the connection with U.S. 378 toward West Columbia and Lexington.
Multiple eastbound lanes on I-20 were blocked by the wreck, SCDOT said.
Traffic cameras showed emergency vehicles on the scene, and traffic backed up as it filtered into the one remaining open lane on the highway.
No injuries were reported in the collision, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Information on what caused the crash, and the number of vehicles involved, was not available.
Before 9:30 a.m., traffic was flowing through all of the eastbound lanes on I-20, traffic cameras showed.
