Major Midlands interstate open again after being blocked by wreck

A violent wreck that had every lane of Interstate 20 eastbound blocked has been cleared and the lanes are open again.

Traffic was at a stop on I-20 east near mile marker 68, which is close to Monticello Road, from 9 a.m. until about 11 a.m., according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The back up was the result of a multiple vehicle collision in which one person was thrown from a vehicle, according to Jones.

The collision occurred about 9 a.m., the Department of Transportation reported. The westbound lanes of I-20 near the wreck also became congested.
