Wreck blocks highway headed toward Columbia on morning commute
A multi-vehicle crash blocked part of a highway in Lexington County and created delays for drivers making the Wednesday morning commute toward Columbia.
The collision happened at about 7:40 a.m. and blocked an eastbound lane on Interstate 20, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
The wreck involving at least two SUVs, including one with a trailer, happened near the 59 mile marker on I-20. That between Exit 58, which is the junction with U.S. 1, and Exit 61, where there is the connection with U.S. 378.
The delays were longer because drivers were unable to move into the open lane since a concrete barrier separated them as part of an ongoing traffic shift on the highway to widen the road.
No injuries were reported in the crash, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Vehicles were backed up on I-20 for miles, as emergency responders worked to clear the wreck, traffic cameras showed.
Information on what caused the collision was not available.
The crash was cleared at about 8:45 a.m., according to SCDOT.
