Burning vehicle blocks traffic on highway running through Richland County

All of the eastbound lanes on a major highway running through Richland County were blocked by a burning vehicle on Sunday morning, the South Carolina Department of Transportation said.

The fire caused a traffic jam near Exit 68 on Interstate 20, SCDOT said on Twitter. That’s in Columbia near the junction with S.C. 215/Monticello Road.

Information on injuries was not made available by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

There was no word on what caused the fire, or how many vehicles were involved.

SCDOT cameras showed traffic was backed up for miles, all the way to Exit 65, which is the Broad River Road exit on I-20.

Information on when I-20 will be cleared was not available.
