Crash blocks all lanes on highway heading to Columbia
Drivers making the Tuesday morning commute on a major highway heading to Columbia were stuck in a miles-long traffic jam following a crash.
All of the eastbound lanes on Interstate 26 were blocked following the collision that happened at about 7:45 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The wreck was near Exit 91 in Lexington County, which is the junction with Columbia Avenue in Chapin. It’s a few miles from the Richland County line.
No injuries were reported by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Vehicles were backed up in a standstill for miles on I-26, traffic cameras showed.
Information on what caused the collision, and the number of vehicles involved, was not available.
At about 8:40 a.m., the crash was cleared, according to SCDOT. Another collision on I-26 eastbound was reported near the 85 mile marker at about 8:30 a.m., and it took 30 minutes for the highway to be cleared.
