Crash causes traffic jam on highway heading toward Columbia

Drivers making the Tuesday morning commute toward Columbia on a major highway were stuck in a traffic jam following a crash.

Two westbound lanes on Interstate 20 were closed following the collision that happened at about 8:45 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

The wreck was near Exit 68 in Richland County, which is the connection with S.C. 215/Monticello Road, and leads drivers toward downtown Columbia.

No injuries were reported by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Vehicles were backed up for at least a mile on I-20 to Fairfield Road, traffic cameras showed.

There was no word on what caused the collision or the number amount of vehicles involved, but several first responders could be seen on traffic cameras.

Information on when I-20 would be reopened and the scene would be cleared was not available.
