Dirt bike rider killed in crash with SUV on SC road is identified by coroner

One person was killed Sunday night when a dirt bike crashed into another vehicle on a South Carolina road, according to Highway Patrol.

Danny W. Wyatt is the dirt bike rider who died of blunt force injuries sustained in the crash, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said Monday. The 53-year-old Warrenville resident was taken to Augusta University Medical Centers where he died at 8:43 p.m., according to Ables.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 6:20 p.m. in Aiken County, said Master Trooper Brian Lee of South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Wyatt was riding his dirt bike on Langley Dam Road and turned onto Carline Road, pulling into the path of a northbound Chevrolet Suburban, Ables said. That’s next to Langley Pond, near the campuses of Midland Valley High School and Aiken Technical College.

Wyatt failed to yield right of way before the collision with the SUV, according to Lee. The results of toxicology tests on Wyatt are pending, Ables said.

There was no word if Wyatt wore a helmet.

No other injuries were reported in the crash, which continues to be investigated by Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office.

Through Friday morning, 65 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2022, state Department of Public Safety data shows. Last year, 1,121 people died in crashes in South Carolina, according to DPS.

This is the first fatal crash reported in Aiken County in 2022, while 34 died last year, according to DPS.
