Two SC men killed in crash at Midlands ATV park, coroner says
Two South Carolina men were killed in a crash at a Midlands ATV park over the weekend, the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office said Monday.
On Saturday, Robert Bell IV, a 32-year-old from Little River, was driving an ATV at Carolina Adventure World with John Breeden III, a 46-year-old from Longs, on board as a passenger, Coroner Chris Hill said in a news release.
Bell lost control of the ATV, crashed through a gate and went down a 30-foot embankment in what Hill called an accident.
The ATV rolled over numerous times, ejecting both Bell and Breeden, who died at the scene, according to the release.
There was no word if either the driver or the passenger wore helmets.
Information about what caused Bell to lose control of the ATV was not available, but the collision continues to be investigated by the coroner’s office.
Carolina Adventure World calls itself the Southeast’s largest private off-road ATV UTV Dirt bike park, with 100 miles of groomed trails. It’s in Winnsboro, about 40 miles north of Columbia.
This is not the first death reported at Carolina Adventure World.
In 2020, a 23-year-old Charlotte man was killed in collision when he was pinned under a vehicle after it flipped at the ATV park.
More recently at another area ATV park, another South Carolina man died while riding an ATV. In July 2021, a 30-year-old rode a four-wheeler into a pond and died at the Broken Nut Off Road Park in Kershaw County.
