SC man killed when car that had been in crash is hit a second time, cops say
A South Carolina man was killed when he was run over by two vehicles, officials said.
The collision that involved two vehicles and a pedestrian happened at about 6 a.m. Friday, according to Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The Edgefield County Coroner’s Office said Alexander Briggs died at the scene, WRDW reported.
A 2022 Hyundai Elantra was involved in two crashes on Sweetwater Road in Edgefield County, and the second was the deadly incident, Bolt said.
After the first wreck, the unoccupied car was disabled near the intersection with Mays Way, according to Bolt.
Briggs was standing behind the Hyundai when a 2009 Dodge Ram heading south on Sweetwater Road crashed into the car, Bolt said.
Both the car and the pickup truck ran over Briggs, according to Bolt.
A 54-year-old Greenwood man driving the pickup was not hurt, according to Bolt.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the first collision, and if any other vehicles were involved, was not available. The deadly crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
