Crash shuts down highway in Columbia and causes injuries
A Sunday morning crash on a highway in Columbia caused injuries and brought traffic to a standstill.
All of the southbound lanes on Interstate 77 were blocked following the collision that happened at about 8:30 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The wreck was near Exit 12 in Richland County, which is the connection with Forest Drive and Strom Thurmond Boulevard, and can lead drivers toward Fort Jackson.
Injuries were reported by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Information on the number of people hurt and the amount of vehicles involved was not available.
There was no word on the cause of the collision.
Vehicles were backed up at least a mile on I-77, traffic cameras showed.
Information on when the lanes on I-77 would reopen and the scene would be cleared was not available. Drivers might want to avoid the area if possible, otherwise should expect delays.
