One person is dead after colliding with a Ford F550 fire truck near Hardeeville, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A 2007 Nissan Sedan and a Ford F550 fire truck were both traveling north on U.S. Highway 17 when the vehicles collided. The collision caused the Nissan to strike a third vehicle, a 2005 Ford pickup truck traveling south in the other lane.
The Nissan and the Ford fire truck then both ran off the road and into a ditch.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital where they died from their injuries. That individual has not yet been publicly identified.
The driver and passenger of the fire truck and the driver of the 2005 Ford sustained no injuries.
The accident occurred April 6, but the Highway Patrol did not provide the time of the crash. The Highway Patrol also did not identify which agency the fire truck belonged to.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash along with the department's specialized multi-disciplinary accident investigation team.
