Midlands interstate shut down after multi-car wreck. Here are the details

All lanes of traffic were blocked on Interstate 20 east in Lexington County after a wreck Friday morning.

The wreck occurred a mile east of exit 51 shortly after 6:30 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. That’s the exit for Longs Pond Road between Gilbert and Lexington. Emergency crews were on the scene.

The Town of Lexington said at 7:30 a.m. that the east-bound lanes of I-20 in the area of the wreck were being shutdown. Two people suffered minor injuries in the wreck and were taken to a hospital.

All lanes were still blocked as of 7:30 a.m.

By 7:40 a.m. the South Carolina Highway Patrol opened up a lane of I-20 east near the wreck, but traffic was still at a stand still or extremely slowed, according to the DOT maps.
