Highway heading to downtown Columbia blocked after crash on morning commute

Drivers making the Wednesday morning commute to downtown Columbia were delayed following a crash.

Two lanes on Interstate 126 were blocked following a collision that happened at about 6:05 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

The wreck was near the Huger Street exit in Richland County, which leads drivers to downtown Columbia.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety did not report if there were any injuries in the wreck. Information on the number of vehicles involved was not available.

There was no word on the cause of the collision.

Vehicles were backed up at least a half mile on I-126, traffic cameras showed.

At about 7:15 a.m., the lanes on I-126 were reopened and the scene was cleared, according to the SCDOT.
