The two-vehicle collision happened at about 5:45 a.m. in Orangeburg County, according to Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell.
The moped and a 2021 Toyota Corolla were driving east on U.S. 178/North Road, Tidwell said. Near the intersection with Medway Drive the car hit the moped, according to Tidwell.
Information about where the moped rider died, at the scene or in a local hospital, was not available.
The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office is expected to publicly identify the moped rider after notifying the next of kin.
There was no word if the moped rider wore a helmet.
Tidwell said the Toyota driver was the only person in the car and was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
