Inbound and outbound lanes of Sunset Boulevard in Lexington are closed until about 7 p.m. Friday because of a wreck involving a bucket truck and power lines, the Lexington Police Department said.

No one was injured.

The police department said that drivers “need to avoid Sunset Blvd./US-378 until the roadway reopens.”

With rush hour approaching “there is a tremendous amount of traffic coming into and out of the Town of Lexington,” according to the department.

Officers are redirecting traffic out of the area.

About 12:45 p.m., a bucket truck with its bucket up ran into power lines at Sunset Boulevard and Hope Ferry Road, bringing down a pole, according to police. Power lines went down in the intersection. “Several” vehicles were hit by wires and debris, police said.

Dominion Energy, Spectrum and Town of Lexington crews responded to the scene and were fixing the electrical fixtures as of 4 p.m. Power was lost in the area.

The driver of the bucket truck was cited for driving with a suspended license and striking fixtures.
