Early morning crash at Malfunction Junction blocks highway, causes injuries

A crash caused injuries and blocked part of two major interstates in the area called Malfunction Junction early Monday morning.

The ramp at Exit 107 was closed following the collision, according to the South Carolina Department of transportation. That’s in Richland County, close to the line with Lexington County, and is the junction of Interstate 26 and Interstate 20.

The crash happened at about 5:40 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-26, SCDOT said.

Information about the cause of the collision, and the number of vehicles involved, was not available.

Injuries were reported in the wreck, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. There was no word on the number of people hurt or their conditions.

At about 6 a.m., SCDOT reported no lanes were closed, and the scene was cleared by about 6:15 a.m.
