Driver killed in crash with pickup truck on Midlands road, SC Highway Patrol says

One person was killed and three more were hospitalized in a crash on a Midlands road early Wednesday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 5:55 a.m., on S.C. 389 near the Neeses area of Orangeburg County, Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell said.

A 2012 Honda Accord was driving north on S.C. 389 when it collided with a 2014 Chevrolet pickup, causing the truck to run off the road and hit a utility pole, according to Tidwell.

The Honda driver was killed, Tidwell said.

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the Honda driver.

A passenger in the Honda, along with the pickup driver and a passenger in the Chevy, were all hurt and taken to an area hospital, according to Tidwell. Further information on their conditions was not available.

There was no word if any of the four people involved in the wreck wore a seat belt.

Information about what caused the Chevy and Honda to collide was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Monday, 929 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2022, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,194 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
