Lexington woman killed in crash is identified by coroner

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said it’s investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead in Lexington County.

Debra Marlene Bilbo was the pedestrian who was killed, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Saturday. The 70-year-old Lexington resident died at the scene, according to Fisher.

Bilbo was crossing Platt Springs Road, near the intersection with Highland Drive, on foot at about 6:15 p.m. Friday when she was struck by an eastbound 2010 Chevy Camaro, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the Highway Patrol. That’s near the Red Bank area of Lexington.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was not injured, according to Miller.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene after the crash, Fisher said.

No other injuries were reported.

“This collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol,” Miller said.

Through Nov. 27, at least 957 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2022, including 143 pedestrians, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,194 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 40 people have died in Lexington County crashes in 2022, and four were pedestrians, DPS reported. Last year, 57 deaths were reported in the county, according to DPS data.
