Building in Columbia destroyed after truck crashes through business, officials say

A building was destroyed Monday night when a truck crashed into it and drove through the business.

Minnie’s Auto Repair was substantially damaged when a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed hit the building, the Irmo Fire District said. The building is in the 6200 block of St. Andrews Road, in a portion of Columbia that’s in Lexington County.

After smashing into the building, the truck continued moving before exiting from the other side, the fire district said in a news release.

The crash left the building structurally unstable, according to the fire district, and crews worked to secure the structure.

Information about when the crash happened was not available, but the fire district reported on it after 7 p.m. The auto repair shop closed at 5 p.m., according to the business’ website.

Lanes on St. Andrews Road, not far from the Irmo town line, were temporarily closed while emergency responders were on the scene.

There was no word on what caused the truck to run off the road and crash into the building, or if the driver will face any criminal charges.

Minnie’s Auto Repair is a female-owned business, according to its website.

“We want to take uncertainty and stress out of auto repair and provide reliable and honest service with competitive pricing,” the website says.
