Busy road by big mall in Columbia closed after gas line is cut, fire department says
A section of a busy road in Columbia is closed after a gas line was cut Monday, the Columbia Fire Department said.
Columbiana Drive was closed to traffic, the fire department said at about 11:15 a.m.
The area from Columbiana Centre to Harbison Boulevard was blocked as firefighters responded to the scene, the fire department said. That’s a popular shopping district densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants where traffic is regularly heavy.
The fire department said it responded to the scene at about 11 a.m. after a construction crew cut the gas line.
There were no injuries, and there is no call for the area to be evacuated, fire department spokesman Mike DeSumma told The State.
Dominion Energy also “is working to mitigate the problem,” DeSumma said.
At about 12:50 p.m., the fire department reported the gas line issue had been resolved and all affected roads have reopened to traffic.
