Days after a crash involving a car, SUV and pickup truck on a Lexington County road, one person died in an area hospital, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

The three-vehicle collision happened Tuesday at about 10:05 a.m., according to Cpl. Tyler Tidwell. It was Thursday when the Highway Patrol reported one of the drivers in the wreck died.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the driver who was killed.

The crash happened at the intersection of S.C. 6/North Lake Drive and where Innsbruck Drive and Westbury Place are on opposite sides of the road, Tidwell said. That’s near the Irmo area of Lake Murray.

A 2016 Cadillac CTS was driving north on Westbury Place when it was hit by a 2013 Honda Pilot SUV that was going west on S.C. 6, according to Tidwell. After that collision, the Cadillac then ran into a 2018 Toyota Tundra pickup that was facing south at a stop sign on Innsbruck Drive, Tidwell said.

The Cadillac driver was taken to Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge hospital before being transferred to Prisma Health Richland, where they died, according to Tidwell.

Tidwell said neither the driver of the SUV nor the pickup driver were hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if any of the drivers involved in the collision were wearing seat belts.

Information about what caused the SUV to hit the car was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 125 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,081 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least four people have died in Lexington County crashes in 2023, according to the coroner’s office. Last year, 43 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
