A motorcyclist was killed after hitting a car 6 miles north of Columbia on Friday morning, officials said.

Just after 10:30 a.m., a 2019 Mitsubishi was turning left onto Broad River Road from a private driveway, said Cpl. Tyler Tidwell of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist, traveling west, hit the car. The person was transported to the Prisma Health Richland Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries, Tidwell said.

Tidwell said the driver of the car, its only occupant, was not injured.
