Driver killed when SUV runs off road in Lexington County crash, SC Highway Patrol says

One person was killed Wednesday night when an SUV ran off a Midlands road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 5:45 p.m. in Lexington County, said Cpl. Tyler Tidwell of the Highway Patrol.

A 2006 GMC Envoy was driving east on Muddy Springs Road when the driver ran off the road to the right and struck a ditch and overturned, Tidwell said.

Tidwell said the driver died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

At least 298 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
