Motorcyclist killed after hitting truck and spilling into road, SC Highway Patrol says

One person was killed Wednesday evening when a motorcyclist hit a truck on Garners Ferry Road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened about 5:30 p.m., said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.

A driver in a 2008 GMC pickup truck was attempting to turn onto Garners Ferry Road from a private driveway several miles from Columbia when a motorcyclist on a 2017 Yamaha motorcycle struck the vehicle and spilled into the roadway, Ridgeway said.

The motorcyclist was transported to Prisma Health Richland and later died at the hospital from his injuries. The driver of the truck was unharmed.

The Richland County Coroner has not publicly identified the victim.

The collision remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.

So far this year, 445 people have died in traffic accidents, according to the Department of Public Safety, 48 of which involved motorcycles.
