One person was killed and two others were injured Monday in a head-on crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Ruby Teal, an 87-year-old Winnsboro resident, died in the accident, Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill said Wednesday.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 4 p.m. in Fairfield County, according to Cpl. David Jones of the Highway Patrol.

Teal, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital where she died, Hill said.

The drivers of both cars were injured and also were taken to local hospitals, according to Jones. Further information on their conditions was not available..

There was no word if either of the drivers were wearing seat belts.

Information about what caused the SUV to veer into oncoming traffic was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
