Motorcycle rider significantly hurt in crash with car in Columbia, police say

A motorcycle rider was injured Wednesday in a crash with a car, according to the Columbia Police Department.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Percival Road and Smallwood Road, police said. That’s near Sesquicentennial State Park, about 3 miles from the junction of Interstate 77 and Interstate 20.

Information about the cause of the crash was not available and remains under investigation, police said. There was no word if either of the drivers will face any criminal charges.

The motorcycle rider suffered significant injuries and was taken to an area hospital, according to police. The motorcycle rider was in critical but stable condition, police spokesperson Jennifer Timmons told The State.

Timmons said the car driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, or if the car driver was wearing a seat belt.

No roads were closed as a result of the crash, Timmons said.
