1 man dead in early morning moped crash in Aiken, SC Highway Patrol says

One man is dead following an early morning moped accident in Aiken on Friday.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has identified the man as 49-year-old Baxter Vinson Jr. He died from blunt force injuries on the scene.

At about 3:30 a.m., Vinson was riding a Honda moped east on Seneca Avenue in Aiken, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The moped veered off the road to the left and struck a utility pole.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are still investigating. A toxicology analysis is pending.

In 2023, 646 people have died on South Carolina roads, according to the Department of Public Safety.
