South Carolina man killed when car runs off road and crashes into tree, officials say
One person was killed Tuesday when a car crashed into a tree by a Midlands road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 6:50 p.m. in Calhoun County, said Cpl. David Jones.
A Dodge Charger was driving east on Old State Road in the St. Matthews area, and the car ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree, according to Jones.
The driver was airlifted by helicopter to Prisma Health Richland hospital, and died there, Jones said.
The Calhoun County Coroner’s Office said 21-year-old St. Matthews resident Lennis Glover Jr., was the driver who died due to multiple blunt force trauma, the Orangeburg Times and Democrat reported.
Jones said Glover was the only person in the car, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if Glover was wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the car to veer off the road was not available, but the crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
