2 dead after car crashes into oncoming SUV on SC interstate, Highway Patrol says

Two people died in weekend a crash involving a car and an SUV near Camden, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

At about 10 p.m. on Saturday, a 2003 Honda Accord was traveling east on Interstate 20 and a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west near the mile 94 marker in Kershaw County, Master Trooper Gary Miller said.

Miller said the Honda drove off the road to the right, lost control and crossed the median, hitting the Chevy Tahoe on the driver’s side. The driver and the passenger of the SUV were killed.

The driver of the Honda was uninjured.

The Kershaw County coroner has not yet publicly released information about the deceased.

It is not clear what caused the car to veer off the road, but Miller said the S.C. Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision.

According to the state Department of Public Safety, 748 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2023 so far.
