Driver killed in three-vehicle crash on SC road, Highway Patrol says
One person was killed Wednesday when a motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck and an SUV, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The three-vehicle collision happened at about 5:15 p.m. in Laurens County, said Master Trooper Gary Miller.
A 2003 Honda motorcycle was driving west on U.S. 76 and collided with an eastbound 2005 Ford F-150 that was turning left onto Sprouse Road, according to Miller.
After that crash, the motorcycle hit a 2024 BMW SUV that was also driving east on U.S. 76, Miller said.
The motorcycle rider died, according to Miller.
The Laurens County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the motorcycle rider.
Miller said neither of the other drivers nor the five passengers in the SUV were hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet, or if any of the people in the pickup and SUV were wearing seat belts.
The crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Tuesday, 791 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 22 people have died in Laurens County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 24 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
