Woman killed in crash involving two SUVs and pickup truck is identified by SC coroner

One person was killed and another was hurt Tuesday morning in a crash involving a pickup truck and two SUVs, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Vivian Ann Quick, a 63-year-old Sumter resident, was on her way home from work when she died in the accident, Kershaw County Coroner David West said.

The three-vehicle collision happened at about 6:15 a.m. in Kershaw County, said Lance Cpl. William Bennett.

A 2015 Dodge Ram pickup was driving north on U.S. 521 when it and a southbound 2013 Nissan SUV sideswiped each other, according to Bennett. The pickup then crashed head-on with a 2015 Dodge SUV that was also driving south on U.S. 521, Bennett said.

The Dodge SUV driver, later identified as Quick, died at the scene, according to Bennett.

The pickup driver was injured and taken to Prisma Health Richland hospital, Bennett said. Further information on his condition was not available, West said.

Bennett said neither the driver nor the passenger in the Nissan SUV were hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

Quick was wearing a seat belt, according to West.

There was no word if any of other the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

Information about what caused the Dodge pickup and Nissan SUV to collide was not available, but the wreck that happened near Exit 98 on Interstate 20 in the Camden area remains under investigation.

Through Sunday, 808 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2023, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,091 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 10 people have died in Kershaw County crashes in 2023, according to DPS data. Last year, 17 deaths were reported in the county, DPS reported.
