Car crash involving a school bus leaves 2 dead, 1 injured, SC highway patrol says

Two people are dead in an Aiken County car crash that involved a school bus, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Just after noon on Thursday, a 2018 Toyota Corolla was driving north on Rushton Road when it collided with a school bus driving east on Wrights Mill Road, two miles east of Aiken, Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover said.

The school bus had two occupants at the time of the crash. One was transported to a local hospital, according to the highway patrol. The other was uninjured.

The two occupants of the car were pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office. They have been identified as 37-year-old Christopher Register and 29-year-old Rachel Register, of Columbia.

They will be autopsied in Newberry.

The coroner’s office and the S.C. Highway Patrol are investigating.

According to the S.C. Department of Public Safety, 912 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2023.
