Motorcyclist killed near Columbia in early morning collision, SC highway patrol says
A motorcyclist is dead after they collided with a car on Interstate 20 near Columbia, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, a 2010 Honda Element and a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle were traveling east on the highway near mile marker 77, about 2 miles east of Columbia, according to Lance Corporal Lena Butler.
The motorcyclist collided with the car, Butler said, and died from their injuries on the scene. They have not been publicly identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Officer.
The driver and occupant of the Honda were uninjured.
The S.C. Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
In 2024, there have been at least 210 traffic fatalities on South Carolina roads, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, 23 of which involved a motorcycle.
