Around 2:45 p.m., a 2020 GMC pickup truck was heading west on Chapin Road when it ran off the road, veering right and crashing into a tree. A man — also the driver and sole occupant — was pronounced dead on the scene from his injuries.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol are still investigating the incident.
At least 689 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in the state.
