Golf course employees found South Carolina man’s body hours after he died, coroner says
A South Carolina man’s body was found hours after a deadly crash over the weekend, according to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.
Daniel Calvin Eller, a 31-year-old Seneca resident, died from the injuries he suffered in what Coroner Karl Addis called an accident.
The single-vehicle collision happened near the intersection of Richland Road near Tosha Drive in Oconee County, said Lance Cpl. Lena Butler of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Eller was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus south on Richland Road when it ran off the right side and went down an embankment where it crashed into a wooden fence, according to Butler.
Eller, who was the only person in the Ford, died at the scene, Butler said. No other injuries were reported.
The wreck is believed to have happened between midnight and 2 a.m., but wasn’t discovered until about 7 a.m. by employees at the Oconee Country Club golf course, according to Addis.
There was no word if Eller was wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the Ford to veer off the road was not available, but the coroner’s office said the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Oct. 13, at least 750 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 11 people have died in Oconee County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data.
